"Spearfish Canyon Pond"

This pond below Brakelock Falls in Spearfish Canyon was created
and abandoned by beavers many years ago. The result is a beautiful
wet meadow in the Black Hills of South Dakota.
This area was one of the most sacred to the Oglala Sioux and their
refusal to "sell" it when gold was discovered and the
illegal incursions by white prospectors contributed to the Indian
Wars of the 1870's.
