Scott in Iraq -- News and Notes

Deployment Day, May 11, 2007

We reported to Stewart at 9:00PM to say a quick goodbye and leave our soldierfor an 11:00PM departure. Once we are all emotionally geared up to say goodbye, the Army had a better idea and bumped us back to 3:00AM. So we drove the hour back to Scott and Christy's, grabbed two quick hours of sleep and returned to Stewart at 2:00AM very, very foggy.

This is really how we felt. Once again, we went through the goodbyes and left Scott behind. Christy, Marti and I drove home and we got back in our room at 5AM. At 10 that morning my cellphone rings and it's Scott. He is home again, they were bumped, and we said we'd meet for lunch at noon. After lunch we drove back to Stewart a third time and finally did get him off and the photos below are from that afternoon. This was the real one.

Scott carries this vest with armor plate and it weighs 60lbs loaded with gear and ammo. Gloves, helmut, rucksack, goggles and assorted things finish out the uniform, most of which is required to be worn in the field... in 120* plus heat. Scott said that the Iraqis think we are superhuman somehow for being able to wear all this heavy stuff in the heat..... It mystifies them.

Some final adjustments in the wardrobe.

Scott and Christy.

Scott is patiently answering my questions about that gun. He says he can hit anything with it at 600 yards.....

Scott and Mom..... enough said.

In formation just prior to boarding the bus. Scott is talking with "Cas" his partner in the squad. Both are sergeants and have 6 men in the squad.

Cas and Scott...

Dad gets busted taking photos again, but Scott should be use to this by now.

da Bus.....

Scott promised that he would get one last kiss before he boarded that bus and here it is.

The wives and girlfriends, moms and dads stuck together as they each watched thier soldier board.
